Shadow Lights

Material and Immaterial Pracices - Light Installation at the Tate Modern

Project Overview

The brief of this project was to explore the immaterial and material properties of the Blavinik Building at the Tate Modern, and how to add to the space materially and immaterially.

I was captivated by how musuem goers gravitated towards the singular coloured wall anchoring the concrete staircase, as well as the wall length windows on the right side of the building.

Taking the skylight into consideration, which was the primary centre light source, I designed an installation of glass that would introduce colour into the seating area; despite being a seating area, it remained sparce due to the drabness of the concrete.
